The purpose of this research was to study the potential risk of personnel as perceived by registered nurses, and the level of personnel risk management by the head of the department (HD), according to the perception of registered nurses in accident and emergency departments of general hospitals in southern Thailand, and then to find the relationships between personnel risk and personnel risk management. The sample used in the research comprised 188 registered nurses who were working in the accident and emergency department of one of 14 hospitals for at least one year. Simple sampling method without replacement was used to draw sample. A questionnaire in 3 parts (sociodemographic data, personnel risk, and risk management) was used to collect data. Reliability of questionnaire was 0.95. Data were analyzed using frequency distribution, percentage, mean, standard deviation and Pearson correlation.
The research found that the average score of personnel risk was at a moderate level (M=2.06, SD=0.32). The average level of risk management of personnel by the head of the department, according to the perception of registered nurses, was at a moderate level (M=3.53, SD=.63). The relationship between the potential risk of personnel and the personnel risk management by the head of department, according to the perception of registered nurses, using Pearson's correlation statistics, revealed that the risk of using social media had a low positive correlation with statistical significance (r=.165, p=.024) with workplace risk management by the head of the department.
The results of this study can be used as a guideline to improve quality of risk management of supervisors in accident and emergency departments, so to improve the safety of personnel.
