Abstract

This article aims to present characteristics of innovative leadership in nursing organizations. Willingness to take risks, ability to work with new ideas that have never been implemented before, willingness to practice differently from existing rules, ability to rapidly respond to change, and  being enthusiastic are the main ones.  In addition, nursing administrators who practice innovative leadership must apply four principles:  1) a gradual process of change, 2) change management process, 3) a positive innovation process, and 4) participative management.

Innovative leadership requires determination in managing nursing organizations. Participation is required to achieve the vision of the nursing organization by leading the organization with a new concept of management that embraces changes.
