Abstract

This academic article aimed to review literature regarding quality of life and its related factors in children with cancer.  Cancer in children means from birth to 15 years of age. It is less common than in adults: about 1 in 10. Goals of cancer treatment in children, depending on the type, size, and stage of cancer, are to both cure and relieve symptoms. Suitable methods of treatment are evaluated. Children with cancer must be treated continuously for many years that affect their quality of life.

Quality of life in children with cancer is related to perception and evaluation of one’s life satisfaction, depending on environment, cultural beliefs, as well as values on capabilities of body, mind, emotions, and intelligence. Factors affecting the quality of life of children with cancer are as follows: 1) educational level, 2) self-care behaviors, 3) family support, 4) duration of illness, 5) adequacy of income, 6) relationships, and 7) mental health. These factors must be considered as a guideline for nursing care to improve the quality of life among children with cancer.
