This quasi-experimental research aimed to study the combined effects of massages with plai juice and plai oil on the relief of neck and shoulders pain. The sample of this study consisted of 60 students from Kanchanabhishek Institute of Medical and Public Health Technology. Purposive sampling was applied. The research instruments used for data collection were a form for rating pain score, an algometer, an inclinometer as well as an experimental data record. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and t-test.
The research findings were as follows.
1. After massage with Plai juice as well as massage with Plai oil, the sample had lower pain score, increased pressure pain threshold, and neck movement (p<.05).
2. There was no significantly different between massage with Plai juice and massage with Plai oil in terms of pain score, pressure pain threshold, and neck movement (p<.05).
The results from this study suggest that massage with Plai juice or Plai oil has the similar effects on neck and shoulders pain. Plai juice is a Thai traditional wisdom product providing non-greasy feeling after applying to the skin. Using Plai juice is an alternative way to relieve neck, back, and shoulders pain.
