The Effects of Health Education Program to Promote Premature Infant’s Caregivers bring Infants for Retinopathy Screening in Khon Kaen Hospital

Abstract
Retinopathy of prematurity is a cause of blindness in premature infants.The importance of blinded prevention is bring premature infants to retinopathy screening regularly. This research was quasi-experimental design and aim to study effects of Health Education Program to Promote Premature Infant’s Caregivers bring Infants for Retinopathy Screening in Khon Kaen Hospital by application of protection motivation theory and social support theory. The subjects were 62 premature Infant’s caregivers, and they were divided into two groups, experimental group, and comparison group, and each group was 31 subjects.The experimental group was received health education program and comprised of different activities as follows: lecture with media such as flipchart and video watching, group discussion for experienced changing, demonstration and practice for eye care and eye sight stimulation, brochure giving, bright color yarn giving and follow up by phone. Data collecting by questionnaires and data analysis, descriptive data were used descriptive statistics such as frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations. Compared data were used Paired t-test and Independent samples statistics. Statistical significance setting was set at p<0.05.
The results: after implementations found that the experimental group had mean score of knowledge, threat appraisal (perceive severity, perceive susceptibility), coping appraisal (self-efficacy, response efficacy) and practice more than before and comparison group statistical significantly (p < 0.001).
