Factors Causing Psychological Problems of Elderly People in Later Life in 7 Provinces of Lower Southern of Thailand

Objective: To study the relative factors of psychological problem of elderly people in later life in 7 provinces of lower southern of Thailand
Materials and methods: The samples were 277of elderly people over80 years of age in 7 provinces of lower southern of Thailand. Selecting by Multistage Stage sampling. The data collection was using a Psychological problemquestionnaire 9 items. Frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and the Chi-square test were analyzed.
Results: We found that health perceptions and chronic disease have a relationship with psychological problem of elderly people in later life in 7 provinces of lower southern of Thailand, statistically significant (c2= 24.715 and4.076, p-value <.001, .05). Whereas, living together and care giver factors did not have a relationship with psychological problem of elderly people in later life in 7 provinces of lower southern of Thailand.
Conclusion: Health perception and chronic disease have a relationship with psychological problems of elderly people in later life. There for, promotion elderly people to concern about health protection and managing with their chronic disease are very important. Including understanding about illness in order to help elderly people perceive their health status and be aware of healthcare properly and constantly for psychological problems prevention.
