Frailty in the elderly is a condition that should be emphasized and screened at the beginning to provide appropriate and high-quality prevention and treatment. This descriptive research aimed to investigate the prevalence of frailty and factors related to frailty among the elderly in the community classified by age, gender, status, education, underlying disease, body mass index, polypharmacy, nutritional status, and activity of daily living. The samples were 150 elderly people aged over 60 years old living in Ban Tom Subdistrict Community, Muang District, Phayao Province. The instruments for collecting data consisted of a personal information questionnaire, Mini Nutrition Assessment:MNA, Barthel ADL Index, and the FRAIL scale assessment. Testing reliability using repeated testing (test-retest reliability) found the reliability of the tools .99, 1.00, and .99, respectively. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics,
Chi-square, Fisher's exact tests, and Yates’ Chi-square.
The results of this study have found that a prevalence among frailty in the elderly of 10.00% and body mass index, ability to perform daily activities, nutritional status, and age were related to frailty with statistical significance (x2 = 10.205, p<.01; x2 = 35.972, p<.01; x2 = 5.435’ p<.05; x2 = 8.569, p<.05) respectively. From this study, healthcare professionals should take into consideration factors such as advancing age, low body mass index, malnutrition, and limitations in activities of daily living when conducting screenings and developing healthcare models tailored to the needs of elderly individuals with fragile conditions.
