This quantitative research aims to process the teaching and learning by using scenarios with high-fidelity human simulation in teaching maternal and newborn nursing and midwifery II.
A focus group discussion was used to conduct this study. In 2019, six nursing instructors who taught 30 fourth-year nursing students at Boromarajonani College of Nursing in Nakhon Lampang about maternal nursing and midwifery in nursing high-fidelity human simulation were divided into two groups of participants.
At the preparation stage, a simulation is prepared by modifying the original simulation and developing three new scenarios, as well as by assembling a team of instructors, learners, technological support systems and advanced virtual mannequins. Three phases to the process of educating with High-Fidelity Human Simulation scenarios: 1) Pre-brief, 2) Scenario Period, and 3) using video recordings to reflect the learning outcomes and lead into each relevant session on a topic. Learning outcomes without the pressure of grading, learners reported that being responsible, enthusiastic about learning, teamwork, analytical thinking, problem solving, and effective communication are pleasurable and exciting. Developing the simulated skills of teaching and learning in connecting a variety of systems enabled learners' practical skills effectively represent their knowledge and abilities.
This study recommends that the simulated process be developed and used in other contexts with a high degree of maternal nursing, for instance, to improve the quality of learners and enhance the quality of healthcare services.
