The objectives of this analytical descriptive were to study morbidity rates and to analyze pulmonary tuberculosis, morbidity rates among inmates in prisons, by studying and collecting retrospective data from the Lampang Central Prison database of 2,706 inmates from 3 prisons from October to December 2019. The instruments used a personal data record form, physical examination by chest radiography and sputum AFB 3-day and MTB test in inmates with abnormalities on chest radiographs. The descriptive data were analyzed frequency, percentage and compare the ratios of disease and non-morbidity in both the risk factor and non-risk groups
The result found that: A total of 2,706 inmates were examined by chest radiograph screening found abnormalities 10.02 %, males 9.24%, females 0.78%, receiving additional tests with sputum AFB and MTB of the 32 positive and diagnosed pulmonary tuberculosis inmates (31 males, 1 female), 17.11 % of the inmates had abnormal radiographs. In each prison, chest radiography screening results showed abnormalities: 1) 2,552 The Central Prison with 261 abnormalities, 2) 50 at Nong Krathing Temporary Prison, 4 with abnormalities, 3) 104 at Central detention center with 7 abnormalities, of which three were further tested with AFB sputum and MTB tests, who were positive and were diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis, 29, 2 and 1 patients, respectively. Risk factor of pulmonary tuberculosis found that sex and underlying diseased are not associated in this study.
This study suggested that disease was caused by an imbalance of factors involved in both the human, disease-causing and environmental factors that need to be balanced in order to reduce the incidence of the disease. Screening of asymptomatic pulmonary tuberculosis patients in prison should therefore be screened according to criteria for speedy diagnosis and timely treatment to help reduce the spread of pulmonary tuberculosis in prison.
