Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the incidence and predictive factors of late-onset sepsis (LOS) in preterm infants at a tertiary care hospital. The sample consisted of 87 preterm infants who were admitted to Sunpasitthiprasong Hospital between January 1, 2021, and December 31, 2023. Data were collected using a data recording form with verified content validity (CVI = 0.89). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Factors associated with late-onset sepsis were analyzed using the Chi-square test and Fisher’s exact test. Predictive factors of late-onset sepsis in preterm infants were analyzed using multivariable logistic regression. The results showed that the incidence of late-onset sepsis was 23.00% (n = 20). Factors significantly associated with LOS (p < .05) included the 5-minute Apgar score (p = .025), duration of hospital stay (p = .039), receiving total parenteral nutrition (TPN) (p = .003), maternal steroid administration (p = .028), and mode of delivery (p = .037). However, when analyzed using multiple logistic regression, no factors were found to be significantly associated with LOS (p > .05). A key limitation of this study was the relatively small sample size. Although the analysis indicated certain trends, these findings cannot yet be confirmed as predictive factors in practice. However, they may serve as preliminary hypotheses for future studies with larger sample sizes.
