This study was a cross-sectional analytical study aimed to investigate the prevalence and factors associated with multidrug-resistant organism infections in the intensive care unit of Phibunmangsahan Hospital. The study was conducted among patients who were admitted and had positive pathogenic culture results from the clinical microbiology laboratory between January 1 and December 31, 2024. Data were collected from medical records. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics, including Chi-square test or Fisher’s exact test for categorical variables, and Mann–Whitney U test for non-normally distributed continuous variables. Subsequently, multiple logistic regression analysis was performed, and the results were presented as adjusted odds ratios (aOR) with 95% confidence intervals. The results showed that the prevalence of multidrug-resistant organism infections was 43.33% (78/180). Factors significantly associated with multidrug-resistant organism infections included bloodstream infection (aOR 4.52, 95% CI 1.67–12.19), urinary catheterization (aOR 2.97, 95% CI 1.03–8.55), and length of hospital stay ≥12 days (aOR 4.67, 95% CI 2.07–10.52). In conclusion, multidrug-resistant organism infections in the intensive care unit had a high prevalence. Key associated factors were related to the severity of infection, use of medical devices, and prolonged hospital stay. These findings support the importance of surveillance of device-associated infections and appropriate antimicrobial use to further develop infection control measures in the intensive care unit.
