The effectiveness of the development of basic first aid for occupational accidents among employees in Udon Thani province workplaces

Abstract

This quasi-experimental research aimed to study the effectiveness of the development of basic first aid for occupational accidents among employees in Udon Thani province workplaces, between April 2019 - January 2020. The sample of 31 people were safety officers or personelle responsible for safety work. The tool used is the potential developing process by providing training, knowledge, and practice for one day and follow-up supervision regularly. Data were collected by using questionnaires, including accident statistics, accident frequencies, types of accidents, vehicle accidents, cause of accidents, risk rating of accidents, basic first aid potential assessment, attitudes, and basic first aid skills. Data were analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation, paired t-test, and multiple regression analysis. After the development of critical problems affecting the overall first aid potential, the results showed a statistically significant decrease at the 0.05 level (p<0.001). The most significant reduction was the accident statistic (from 2.77 to 0.81), safety (from 3.09 to 1.78), and mental health impact (from 3.10 to 1.55). On the other hand, the overall knowledge and first aid ability after development significantly increased at the 0.05 level (p<0.001). The most significant increase was in the first aid skills. Factors predicting influence on first aid potential found that overall factors were statistically significant at <0.05, 37.2% (R²Adj.=0.372, p<0.001). The four factors were confidence in applying knowledge, first aid skills, accidental rate, and the risk of accidents at work. This first aid capacity development can be used in other interesting establishments.
