Abstract

Objective: to develop a Smartphone Addiction Scale: Thai Short Version (SAS-SV-TH) and assess reliability and content validity of the measurement.

Methods: SAS-SV-TH is a measurement designed for assessing smartphone addiction. It consists of 10 items of questions, with Likert’s type rating 1-6 (1=strongly disagree, 6=strongly agree). The measurement was developed through forward-backward translation technique and rewiewed by 3 experts for content validity testing. The questionnaire was administered to the participants of 100 university students through online base to test the reliability using Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient.

Results: The SAS-SV-TH had the internal consistency of 0.94 for the total scale and ranges from 0.76 to 0.97 for the subscales.

Conclusion: The SAS-SV-TH demonstrated satisfactory reliability and validity in the college student populations. This is the first to demonstrate psychometric properties of the SAS-SV-TH. Further studies in variety of subjects should be done to confirm and extend these initial finding.
