The Efficacy of Integrated-Health Promotion Programs (IHPPs) in Weight Reduction among Industrial Workers in Samut Prakan, Thailand

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Integrated Health Promotion Programs (IHPPs) for weight reduction among employees in industrial establishments in Samut Prakan Province. A multicenter randomized controlled trial design was employed. A total of 228 overweight or obese employees were recruited and randomly assigned to either an intervention group (n = 113) or a control group (n = 115). The intervention group received the IHPPs, which consisted of motivational enhancement activities, education on time-restricted eating, and aerobic exercise sessions conducted once per week for eight weeks by a multidisciplinary team. Data were collected before and after the intervention using questionnaires and health assessment tools. The duration of the study was eight weeks.
The results showed that the intervention group experienced statistically significant improvements in health indicators compared to the control group (p < 0.05). On average, the intervention group had a weight reduction of 1.3 kilograms, a decrease in body mass index (BMI) of 0.5 kg/m², a reduction in waist circumference of 1.0 cm, and a significant decrease in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. In contrast, the control group showed no significant changes. Independent t-tests were used to analyze the differences between groups.
These findings suggest that the IHPPs are effective and feasible for promoting health among industrial employees, particularly those who are overweight or obese. The program is suitable for implementation within the context of industrial workplaces, utilizes internal resources, and has the potential to reduce the risk of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the long term.
