Research Objective: To study the factors influencing preventive behavior of coronavirus disease 2019 among secondary students in Krathum Baen district, Samut Sakhon province
Research Methodology: This study was predictive research. The sample was the secondary school students in semesters 1 and 2, academic year 2022, in the Krathum Baen district, Samut Sakhon province. The multistage cluster sampling was used to select 542 samples. The data were collected by self-administered questionnaires, which applied the PRECEED-PROCEDE Model and the prevention of coronavirus disease 2019. The instruments consisted of 1) the questionnaire related to predisposing, enabling, and reinforcing factors; and 2) preventive behavior of coronavirus disease 2019 questionnaires. These instruments had content validity index between .08-1.0, and reliability coefficients between 0.89-0.96. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, and Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis.
Results: Most of the samples had coronavirus disease 2019 preventive behavior at a moderate level (71.1%). The significant influencing factors on preventive behaviors of coronavirus disease 2019 among secondary school students in years 1-6 composted of reinforcing factors were social support from family (beta = .263) and social support from peers (beta = .240); enabling factor was the measures of school for coronavirus disease 2019 prevention (beta = .223); and predisposing factor was health literacy of coronavirus disease 2019 (beta = .222). The proportion of variance for a coronavirus disease 2019 preventive that was explained by these factors was 61.4% (Adj R2= .614) (p<.01).
Conclusion: The factor that influenced the preventive behavior of coronavirus 2019 among secondary school students were social support from family, the measures of school for coronavirus disease 2019 prevention, and health literacy of coronavirus disease 2019.
Recommendation: Promoting of the coronavirus disease 2019 prevention behavior among high school students is needed by improving health literacy related to coronavirus disease 2019 and encouraging their friends and family to support them.
