Modeling to Predict Happiness of Registered Nurses in Bang Mun Nak Hospital, Phichit Province

Introduction: Happiness can reflect the quality of working life of registered nurses in hospitals. Hospital can manage factors influencing personnel happiness resulting in efficient and effective health services in registered nurses. This is a benefit to people, community, and society.
Research objectives: To examine happiness levels and compare the differences in demographic data of registered nurses, including classifying registered nurses, and creating a predictive equation model in Bang Mun Nak Hospital, Phichit Province.
Research methodology: This descriptive study consisted of 81 registered nurses in Bang Mun Nak Hospital Phichit Province. A purposive sampling method was used to recruit the participants. Research instrument was a happiness scale adapted from HAPPINOMETER with a validity of 0.98 and a reliability of 0.86. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, ANOVA, and discriminant analysis.
Results: Findings revealed that overall, the registered nurses were happy. Demographic characteristics, including age, job characteristics, work level, and monthly income had a statistically significant difference (p<.01). In comparison, factors affecting the happiness of registered nurses consisted of: Happy Family, Happy Heart, and Happy Money. These can classify groups and create a predictive equation model of registered nurse happiness with validation and accuracy at 90.01%.
Conclusions: Happy family was the most predictive factor for registered nurse happiness, followed by happy heart, and happy money. These were determined by canonical coefficients (0.63, 0.60, and 0.47, respectively).
Implications: Hospital administrators should pay attention to the happiness of registered nurses, particularly, the happy family, happy heart, and happy money. These findings should be utilized to inform guideline development of human resource improvement to enhance happiness among registered nurses who were expected to provide efficiently and effectively public health services.
