Abstract

Introduction: Overweight in school-aged children is a global challenge in healthcare management which affects children family and society in all dimensions, both physically mentally and emotionally, socially, and economically.

Research objectives: This study aimed to examine the effects of using Line application modification planned behavior program on the eating and physical activity behavior of overweight late primary school-aged children.

Research methodology: This quasi-experimental study used a two-group pretest and posttest design.  Participants were students aged 10 to 12 years with   overweight and studying in Saraburi province.  A simple random sampling technique was used to allocate participants to either an experimental group (n=35) or  a control group (n=35). The experimental group received the program for four weeks. The control group received usual care provided by the school.  Instruments were Line application program, and eating behavior and physical activity questionnaires. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-test.

Results:  At follow-up, mean score for the eating behavior and physical activity of the experimental group was statistically significantly higher than at baseline (p<.01).  Furthermore, mean score of the experimental group was statistically significantly higher than the control group (p<.01).

Conclusions: Nurses can use Line application program to encourage children with overweight to develop appropriate eating behavior and physical activity.

Implications: The study duration should be increased to follow up sustainability of eating behavior and physical activity among children.
