Factors associated with Anxiety related to the uptake of Covid-19 Vaccine
Keywords:
anxiety, the uptake of COVID-19 vaccineAbstract
Introduction: The COVID-19 vaccine is an immunization that reduces the severity of complications. COVID-19 vaccines were developed in a limited of time. Also, unclear information related to vaccine has raised concerns about its safety Hence, these concern people about the effectiveness of the vaccine against COVID-19. Medically, this is called Immunization Stress Related Response (ISRR).
Research objective: To examine factors associated with anxiety related to the uptake of COVID-19 vaccine.
Research methodology: This was a survey study. Data were collected among 406 participants while waiting for vaccination between June to October 2021. A purposive sampling was used to recruit participants. A set of research questionnaires was used to collect data on factors associated with anxiety related to the uptake of COVID-19 vaccine, with a consistency index of greater than 0.7 and a reliability of 0.87. Data were analyzed using the Pearson's correlation coefficient.
Results: The results showed that demographic characteristics (age, education level, income, readiness for vaccination), receiving information about vaccines (particularly the frequency of tracking information about the COVID-19 vaccine), the attitude towards the uptake of COVID-19 vaccine were statistically significantly associated with anxiety related to the uptake of COVID-19 vaccine (p<.05). Knowledge related to COVID-19 vaccine was not associated with anxiety related to the uptake of COVID-19 vaccine.
Conclusion: Demographic characteristics, receiving information about vaccines, and attitude towards the uptake of COVID-19 vaccine were associated with anxiety related to the uptake of COVID-19 vaccine among people.
Implications: The findings of this study help to be a guideline of care improvement, enable individuals to be aware of the importance of vaccination, and lessen anxiety related to the uptake of COVID-19 vaccine.
