Abstract

Introduction: The Covid-19 pandemic has caused educational institutions to change onsite teaching and learning methods to online systems. Team-based learning is a learning method that encourages students to participate in the learning process, develop critical thinking, and promote teamwork skills.

Research objective: To examine the effects of online team-based learning on learning readiness, learning outcomes ( knowledge, critical thinking, and teamwork), and satisfaction among nursing students.

Research Methodology:The is a quasi-experimental study using a one-group pretest-posttest design. Sample consisted of 108 fourth-year nursing students. Research instruments were  an online team-based learning program, and data collection tools including:  1) the socio-demographic questionnaire, 2) the self-direct learning readiness questionnaire, 3) the knowledge questionnaire, 4) the critical thinking and teamwork skills questionnaires, and 5) the satisfaction questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired t-tests.

Results: The participants had a high level of self-direct learning readiness ( gif.latex?\underline{x} = 3.69 SD = 0.55). Posttest mean scores of  knowledge, critical thinking and teamwork skills were significantly higher than pretest scores (t = 8.31, p <.001; t = 12.40, p <.001; t = 1.42, p <.01).  Satisfaction with the learning program was at a high level ( gif.latex?\underline{x} = 4.10 SD= 0.59).

Conclusion: Online team-based learning is a learning method that helps learners to have learning readiness, increase their knowledge, and promote critical thinking and teamwork skills.

Implication:  Instructors should apply the team-based learning in online class to enhance the knowledge, critical thinking skills, and teamwork skills.
