Occupational Health Hazards in Faculty of Medicine, Thammasat University

Introduction: Government agencies are not enforced under Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment act. However, such law requires government agencies to have occupational safety, and environmental standard not lower than law required. Occupational health hazard survey is one step of work safety, health, and environmental operation.
Research objectives: To survey and assess occupational health hazards in Faculty of Medicine, Thammasat University.
Research methodology: This was a survey study aimed to assess occupational health hazards in 22 departments in Faculty of Medicine, Thammasat university. Research instruments used to collect data consisted of 3 parts, including demographic questionnaire, occupational safety and health questionnaire, and occupational health hazard questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency and percentage).
Results: The health hazards in Faculty of Medicine, Thammasat university were as follows: physical health hazard (86.36%), chemical health hazards (81.82%), biomechanical health hazards (72.72%), and psychological and biological health hazards (50%).
Conclusions: The major findings were the following. Physical health hazards included confined space, heat, water leakage, and insufficient light. Chemical health hazards included dust, formalin, phenol, mercury, laboratory gases, and liquid nitrogen.
Implications: The results of this study were reported to Dean and the Committee of Occupational Safety, Health, and Work Environment or coordinate with related departments to solve problems.
