Introduction: A group of upper secondary school students is one of adolescent groups who have reported being a victim of cyberbullying. Factors related to cyberbullying include student factors, and social-environmental factors.
Research objectives: This study aimed to examine cyberbullying victimization and the predictive power of psychosocial factors on cyberbullying among upper secondary school students in Muang District, Buriram Province.
Research methodology: This is a predictive correlational study. A simple random sampling technique was used to recruit 134 participants. Questionnaires were divided into 8 parts and used for data collection, including: 1) personal information; 2) self-esteem; 3) internet addiction; 4) social support; 5) interpersonal relationships between students and their guardians; 6) interpersonal relationships between students and friends; 7) interpersonal relationships between students and their teachers, and 8) cyberbullying victimization. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficients of questionnaires no. 2-8 were 0.83, 0.94, 0.95, 0.84, 0.93, 0.88, and 0.89, respectively. Descriptive statistics and stepwise multiple regression analysis were employed for data analyses.
Result: Results revealed that mean score of cyberbullying victimization was 24.88 (SD = 4.76), which can be classified as a low level. Internet addiction (β = .297, p <.001), and interpersonal relationships between students and their parents (β = -.167, p < .05) were statistically significant predictors of cyberbullying victimization. These two factors together explained 13.30% (R2 = .133, p < .05) of the variance in cyberbullying victimization.
Conclusion: Psychosocial factors predicting cyberbullying victimization included internet addiction and interpersonal relationships between students and their parents.
Implications: Nurses, healthcare providers, and educators could apply the results of this study to prevent and lessen cyberbullying victimization problems among upper secondary school students. Promoting constructive use of the internet and good relationships between students and their parents are recommended.
