Factors Related to Safety Behavior of First Responders in Bangkok

Abstract

 Introduction: First responders are at risk of their work. Safety behaviors during work are important to prevent illness and injuries from their work.

Research objectives: This study aimed to examine factors related to the safety behaviors among first responders in Bangkok.

Research methodology: This study used a descriptive cross-sectional design. A sample consisted of 250 first responders aged 18 years and over. Data were collected using a set of questionnaires developed by the researchers.  Reliability coefficients ranged from 0.94 to 0.98. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency distribution, percentage mean, and standard deviation), and inferential statistics (Chi-square test, and Binary logistic regression analysis).

Conclusions: Registration with rescue foundation, knowledge about safety behaviors, attitude towards safety behaviors, protective equipment support, safety work environment support, family support, peer support, supervisor support, and rescue foundation support were the factors that related to safety behaviors among Bangkok first responder workers.

Implication: Findings from this study indicated the importance of knowledge and attitude towards safety behaviors,  registration with rescue foundation, protective equipment support, safety environment,  family support, peer support, supervisor support, and rescue foundation support to first responders’ safety behaviors.
