THE EFFECTS OF OBJECTIVE STRUCTURED CLINICAL EXAMINATIONS (OSCEs) ASSESSMENT FOR THE CLINICAL SKILLS AND SATISFACTION OF ADULT AND ELDERLY NURSING COMPREHENSIVE PRACTICE ACHIEVEMENT TEST IN JUNIOR NURSING STUDENTS, BOROMARAJONANI COLLEGE OF NURSINGS, BANG

This descriptive study aimed to evaluate the effects of Objective Structured Clinical Examinations OSCEs (OSCEs) for the clinical skills and satisfaction of the adult and elderly nursing comprehensive practice achievement test in junior nursing students of Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Bangkok. The samples were 146 of the 3rd year nursing students who passed comprehensive achievement test of OSCEs with 12 nursing instructors. Three sets of observational checklist, and the satisfaction questionnaire on clinical skills were used to examine students’ OSCEs performances. The content validity was approved by 5 experts. IOC of 0.72, 0.93, 0.91, and 0.86 were reported. Reliability was tested with 30 of the 3rd year nursing students, Cronbach's alpha coefficients of0.90, 0.91, 0.90, and 0.93 were reported respectively. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The findings revealed that the overall clinical skills score of nursing students were as follows: Metered dose inhaler (MDI) was 77.40%; Eye drop and eye ointment administration was 63.33%; and Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI) was 43.11%, respectively. The mean score of nursing students’ satisfaction toward OSCEs test was at high level (mean = 3.86, SD = 0.72).
The results the OSCEs test is appropriate and could be applied to assess clinical performance of nursing students and could be used toenhance clinical skills and performance of nursing students individually.
