HEALTH STATUS AND HEALTH SERVICE ACCESSIBILITY: SAMSEN COMMUNITY

Abstract
The purpose of this survey was to study health status and health accessibility of people living in Samsen riverside community. The sample was households living permanently in Samsen riverside from 3 years and all member in the households. Data were collected by interview about health status and health accessibility to health services. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics. The results showed that: majority of the sample was female, single (62.99%), monthly income from 5001-10000 baht, and having universal health care coverage (76.87 percent). Most of them was a household owner and living in the community from 21 - 30 years, and one- third of the households having flooded area in the house (33.54%) Health status of people living in the community found that: Half of pre-school and school age had game addicted behaviors (51.72%). About two- third of them no exercise (65.52%). Teenagers and early adulthood had substance abuse including cigarettes and alcohol (14.74%, 30.56%, respectively), and approximately two- third had no exercise (63.19%). Majority of Adults (35-60 years old) had no annual physical checkup (71.43%). About half of them had a screening for diabetes and hypertension (52.51 and 61.00%, respectively). Most of the female adults aged between 35-60 years old had never screened for breast and cervical cancer (37.85 and 87.80%, respectively) The elderly with depression was reported at 3.57 percent. The common diseases founded in the community were hypertension and diabetes. Accessibility to health services: Most of them reported easily and conveniently access to health services (91.19 percent) but some of them perceived accessibility to health services as a burden (45.67 percent), in term of taking a leave and lossing of income (64.38 percent). Findings from this study suggested to develop health care service model that enhances accessibility to health care services of people living in the Samsen riverside community.
