THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN INSTRUCTIONAL MODEL BASED ON COOPERATIVE LEARNING BY USING VARK LEARNING STYLES ON KNOWLEDGE AND LEARNING WITH HAPPINESS OF NURSING STUDENT

Abstract
The purposes of this study were 1) to develop an instructional model based on cooperative learning by using VARK learning styles and 2) to examine the effect of the instructional model based on cooperative learning by using VARK learning styles on knowledge and learning with happiness of nursing students. The population and sample of this study were 178 nursing students of Boromarajonani College of Nursing Bangkok, divided into two groups: 96 nursing students for an experimental group and 82 nursing students for a control group. The research instruments included 1) The VARK questionnaire 2) Lesson plan of the instructional model based on cooperative learning by using VARK learning styles 3) Learning achievement test 4) Learning with happiness questionnaire and 5) Open-ended question and focus group interview. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, independent t-test, and content analysis. The findings of this study were as follows: 1. The developed instructional model consisted of five steps of the instructional process including: 1) prior knowledge review, 2) learning plan, 3) investigating and knowledge sharing, 4) presentation of new knowledge, and 5) application and evaluation of learning. 2. The effects of the instructional model based on cooperative learning by using VARK learning styles on knowledge and learning with happiness of nursing students were: 1) the experimental group nursing students had higher average scores of overall learning achievement test and learning with happiness than the control group nursing students with statistically significant at p-value .05 and .001, respectively.
