Abstract

Objective: To study insulin injecting behaviors (IIB) and to identify factors affecting IIB among patients with type 2 diabetic mellitus (T2DM) in Long Hospital, Long District, Phrae Province Methods: This study was an analytical cross-sectional study. The data were collected using a questionnaire. The samples consisted of 264 patients with T2DM receiving care from diabetic clinic in Long Hospital, Phrae Province. Systematic random sampling was used to select subjects.  The study assessed IIB using a self-administered questionnaire. Dependent variable was IIB. Independent variables were personal factor, factor on diabetic drugs, perceived self-efficacy on the use of insulin injection and social support of T2DM patients. Results: 66.3% of subjects had moderate scores on IIB. The most important factors affecting IIB was blood sugar levels (β  =-0.588, P < 0.001), followed by social supports (β = 0.270, P < 0.001), self-efficacy of insulin use (β  = 0.129, P = 0.009), and being male (β = 0.076, P = 0.032). Conclusion: Health professionals should promote T2DM patients to have social supports and self-efficacy to improve IIB. Besides, patients with high blood sugar level and being female should be closely followed-up.
