Abstract

This one-group pre and post-test design research aimed to compare the mean scores of thinking process skills in Psychiatric Nursing students by using group reflection and dialogue. The sample was 59 third-year nursing students, selected by a specific sampling method from those who practiced in a Psychiatric Ward for their Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing Practicum Course in the second semester of the academic year 2020. The research instruments consisted of the test on thinking process skills in Psychiatric Nursing and Group Reflection with Dialogue learning management manual training journal. Data were analyzed using paired t-test for mean and thematic analysis for qualitative data analysis. Instruments                                                                           The results showed that after engaging in a structured group discussion with dialogue, nursing students reported a significant increase in their thinking process skills in psychiatric practical nursing (t=32.45, p<.001). Educational institutions should encourage teachers to organize group reflection and dialogue to enhance the thinking process skills of nursing students.
