การระบาดของโรคติดเชื้อไวรัสโคโรนา 2019 ในทั่วโลกและในประเทศไทย จัดเป็นภาวะฉุกเฉินที่ส่งผลกระทบต่อสุขภาพ แบบแผนการดำเนินชีวิต ภาวะเศรษฐกิจ สังคม สิ่งแวดล้อม และความเป็นอยู่ของคนทั่วโลก เกิดการใช้วิถีชีวิตใหม่ (new normal) นำสู่การพัฒนาระบบสุขภาพเพื่อป้องกันโรคโควิด-19 พยาบาลอนามัยชุมชนมีบทบาทสำคัญในการให้บริการสุขภาพแก่บุคคลครอบคลุม 4 มิติงาน ได้แก่ การสร้างเสริมสุขภาพ การป้องกันโรค การรักษาและการฟื้นฟูสุขภาพ ในสถานการณ์แพร่ระบาดของโรคโควิด-19 นี้ พยาบาลอนามัยชุมชน มีบทบาทเป็นผู้นำในการป้องกันสุขภาพของประชาชน เป็นผู้นำแห่งการเปลี่ยนแปลงในการนำแบบวิถีชีวิตใหม่มาปฏิบัติเพื่อช่วยในการป้องกันการติดเชื้อไวรัสโคโรนา 2019 ให้ความรู้ให้ข่าวสารเกี่ยวกับสถานการณ์การแพร่ระบาดและความรุนแรงของโรคเพื่อให้ประชาชนรู้เท่าทัน เกิดความตระหนัก ตื่นตัว และให้ความร่วมมือปฏิบัติตนเพื่อให้ปลอดภัยจากการติดเชื้อการใช้กระบวนการมีส่วนร่วมด้วยการนำเทคโนโลยีมาใช้เป็นสื่อกลางการให้บริการสุขภาพ เป็นผู้ให้คำปรึกษาในทุกสถานการณ์ เป็นผู้ประสานงาน ผู้ร่วมงาน กับบุคลากรสายวิชาชีพอื่น และหน่วยงานอื่น ๆ ในพื้นที่บริการสาธารณสุขใกล้เคียงเพื่อการเข้าถึงบริการของประชาชนที่สอดคล้องกับระบบสุขภาพแบบวิถีชีวิตใหม่ ในสังคมยุคดิจิตอล เน้นการสร้างความเข้มแข็งของชุมชน การพัฒนาศักยภาพในการดูแลตนเองของประชาชน ครอบครัว และชุมชนให้มีสุขภาวะที่ดี มีความเข้าใจในสถานการณ์การระบาดของโรคมากขึ้น อีกทั้งเป็นแนวทางให้พยาบาลอนามัยชุมชนปฏิบัติในการป้องกันและควบคุมการแพร่ระบาดของไวรัสโคโรนา 2019 ที่ยังคงมีแนวโน้มทวีความรุนแรง และกลับอาจกลับมาระบาดซ้ำได้ในอนาคต
