Abstract

This operational study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of implementing the Behavioral Self-Control Training and Telephone Follow-Up Program among persons with amphetamine use disorder at Thanyarak Chiangmai Hospital. The purposive sample group consisted of 40 individuals, divided as follows.: 1) 17 persons with amphetamine use disorder (AUDs) who were involved in the rehabilitation phase; 2)17relatives or caregivers of persons with amphetamine use disorders; and 3) 6 nursing services personnel team members who implemented the program. The research instruments consisted of 1) the Behavioral Self-Control Training and Telephone Follow-Up Program; 2) the Timeline Follow

Back (TLFB); 3) the Readmission record form according to the indicators of Thanyarak Chiangmai Hospital; 4) the AUD satisfaction evaluation form; and 5) the healthcare team satisfaction evaluation form, related to the program implementation. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics.

The results of this study revealed that: 1) After completing the Behavioral Self-Control Training and Telephone Follow-Up Program for one month, all individuals with AUD reported a decrease in their amphetamine use scores, with 29.41% able to discontinue amphetamine usage. 2) Within 1 month of discharge from the hospital and one month after the program’s end, none of the individuals with AUD who received the Behavioral Self-Control Training and Telephone Follow-Up Program were re-admitted for treatment.

3) All members of the nursing personnel teams that used the Behavioral Self-Control Training and Telephone Follow-Up Program unanimously agreed on all points regarding its implementation, stating that it was beneficial for caring for individuals with AUD. They found that it aligned well with existing practices, was easy to implement, had no complexity, could be tested in practice, and allowed for observable results. 4) All individuals with AUD who attended the program were satisfied with the program overall at the highest level with a percentage of 82.40.

The study's findings revealed that the Behavioral Self-Control Training and TelephoneFollow-Up Program could reduce substance use behavior and prevent relapse for individuals with AUD. Therefore, it is recommended to implement this approach in the treatment of AUDs.
