Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a behavior modification program for hypertension prevention among rubber plantation farmers. The sample consisted of 60 rubber plantation farmers aged 35–59 years who were at risk for hypertension. Participants were selected through systematic random sampling and divided into an experimental group and a comparison group, with 30 participants in each group. The research tool was a behavior modification program for hypertension prevention, specifically designed for rubber plantation farmers. The program was conducted over an 8-week period and was validated by experts, achieving a content validity index (CVI) of 1.0. Data collection was conducted using a questionnaire comprising two sections: 1) general and health information, and 2) risk behaviors for hypertension, which were categorized into three aspects: dietary behavior, exercise behavior, and sleep and stress management. The questionnaire demonstrated a content validity index of .97 and a reliability coefficient of .718. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and t-tests.

The results revealed that after participating in the program, the experimental group exhibited a statistically significant reduction in hypertension risk behaviors and blood pressure levels compared to their pre-program measurements (p < .05) and the comparison group (p<.05). These findings indicate that the behavior modification program for hypertension prevention effectively reduced risk behaviors and blood pressure levels.

It is recommended that this program be implemented in other areas for broader implementation.
