Abstract

The objective of this study was to examine the health care of caregivers and the quality of life among bedridden older adults in Mueang District, Lampang Province and aim to study the health care factors of caregivers that influence the quality of life of the bedridden elderly in this area. 98 of bedridden older adults selected using a multistage random sampling method. Data were collected using a set of questionnaires: a personal information questionnaire, a caregiver health care questionnaire, and a quality of life questionnaire for bedridden older adults. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis to determine the factors affecting quality of life.

The results revealed that the overall level of caregivers’ health care was high (equation = 3.93, SD = .44), while the quality of life of the bedridden older adults was at a moderate level (equation = 91.88, SD = 12.85). Significant caregiver-related factors positively associated with the quality of life of the bedridden older adults included caregiver health care practices, maintenance of family normalcy, and caregiver role balance, with statistically significant correlations at the .01 level (r = .663, .656, and .515, respectively). Additionally, social support showed a statistically significant positive correlation at the .05 level (r = .259). Together, these factors accounted for 55.50% of the variance in quality of life among bedridden elderly individuals (R2 = .555, p < .001).

The recommendation from this study is that primary care staff should develop their caregivers to have knowledge and enhance the skills of providing health care, providing support, seeking support that maintains normal family conditions, and maintaining the caregiver's self-balance, leading to a higher level of effective caregiver performance.
