Abstract

A quasi-experimental design study aimed to examine the effects of self-efficacy enhancement program on the anxiety and satisfaction among patients with extra-corporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) at Phrae hospital. Research samples were 70 patients diagnosed with kidney stones and received high-frequency lithotripsy. The samples were divided into a control group and an experimental group of 35 people each. Purposive sampling was utilized. Research instruments were as follows: 1) the structured information program; 2) the anxiety questionnaire and; 3) The satisfaction questionnaire among those patients. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistic, Wilcoxson และ Mann-Withney U.

Results showed that 1) Patients who received high-frequency lithotripsy in the experimental group were significantly less anxious than before receiving the structured information program and less anxious than those in the control group .01 level. 2) Patients in the experimental group were more satisfied than before receiving the program and more satisfied than the control group, statistically significant at the .01 level.

It can be said that the structured information program can reduce anxiety and increase satisfaction among patients undergoing radiofrequency lithotripsy. Health personnel should apply this program to care for these patients in order to improve the quality of nursing care
