Abstract

The objective of this research was to compare the mean scores of stroke prevention behavior and blood pressure of patients with hypertension in the experimental group before the experiment, after the experiment, and during follow-up. Additionally, it aimed to compare these mean scores between the experimental and comparison groups before the experiment, after the experiment, and during follow-up. The research design was a quasi-experimental design. Patients diagnosed with hypertension by a doctor and voluntarily participating in the project 70 people were divided into an experimental group of 35 people and a comparison group of 35 people, with a study period of 12 weeks. The experimental group received a program that applied the protection motivation theory combined with social support to prevent stroke among hypertensive patients. This program emphasized diet control, exercise, stress management, and medication use. It included watching video presentations with lectures, learning from models, demonstrations, skill practice, group discussions, and receiving support from close family members. Data were collected using questionnaires before and after the experiment and during follow-up. The data were analyzed using computer software with statistics, including mean, standard deviation, and comparing experimental results with repeated measures ANOVA and independent t-test.

The results of the study found that after the experiment and the follow-up period, the experimental group had a higher mean score of stroke prevention behavior than before the experiment and significantly better than the comparison group at the .05 level and had a mean blood pressure that was significantly lower than before the experiment at the .05 level.

The results showed that the application of disease prevention motivation theory program with social support had an effect on stroke prevention behavior among hypertensive patients. Therefore, nurses should continue to use this program to care for hypertensive patients.
