The Factors Related to the Perception and Need for Emergency Medical Services of the Elderly in Mae Pool Sub-District, Laplae District, Uttaradit Province

Abstract
This research was descriptive research to study the factors related to the perception and need for emergency medical services of the elderly in Mae Pool sub-district, Laplae district, Uttaradit province. The population is the elderly in Mae Pool sub-district, a total of 2,314 people. The sample size was calculated using the Krejcie and Morgan and was found to be 331 people. The samples were selected purposive sampling. The research tools consisted of Personal data record form and perception for emergency medical service questionnaire, and 3) need for emergency medical service questionnaire. The content validity was examined by 3 experts, and the reliability was found to be .96 and .98, respectively. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient.
The results of the research found that The majority of respondents (65.46%) demonstrated high levels of perception regarding emergency medical services, while 95.15% expressed high levels of need for emergency medical services. The elderly perceived the emergency medical services in the top 3 as follows: 1) Patients must be safe while in the emergency vehicle, 85.50 percent, 2) Paramedics must provide first aid to patients at the scene before transporting them to the hospital, 84.80 percent and 3) There must be staff with the patient in the ambulance at all times, 83.90 percent. The need for emergency medical services was at the highest level, with the top 3 being: 1) The incident responders must assess the symptoms of the elderly patient and the elderly relatives, 2) Create a correct understanding of the rescue work for the general public and 3) The emergency room should have a specific area for the elderly. The factors related to the perception of emergency medical services were age, gender, marital status, education, occupation, income, chronic diseases, history of emergency illness, and need for emergency medical services (p =.05). The factors related to the need for emergency medical services were age, occupation, and income (p = .05).
