Main Article Content
Abstract
The aim of this retrospective study was to investigate the characteristics of COPD patients readmitted within 28 days. The study included 168 COPD patients readmitted toMae Sot Hospital between October 1, 2020 and September 30, 2023. Data were collected using a form capturing basic and clinical detalies of COPD patients making their initial visit and readmitted within 28 days. Concordance index ranged between .60 to 1.0. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Chi-square test, and t-test.
The results indicated that Hight Flow Nasal Cannula use during initial admission was observed in 27.38%, correlating with a 41.67% increase in readmissions within 28 days. The average length of the initial hospital staywas 4.58 days, contrasting with 28 days for readmission, an increase of 5.89%. Initial hospitalization costs averaged 18,305.91 baht, rising to 25,186.47 baht for readmission. Post-discharge, symptom improvement was noted in 100% of cases, with no deaths. However, readmission outcomes shoe=wed a 94.05% reduction in symptom resolution and a 2.98% increase in mortality. These differences were statistically significant at the level of p-value< .05.
This study underscores the impacts of thesearacteristics on 28-day readmission, advocating collaborative analysis with the Patient Care Team (PCT) to formulate effective discharge plans that enhance patients’ quality of life. for patients, leading to a good quality of life.
