Abstract

A quasi-experimental two-group pretest-posttest design. The research aimed to examine the effects of Fon Khanom Sen dance on physical fitness and stress of nursing students. Participants consisted of 80 nursing students in first-year nursing students at Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Phrae obtained by purposive sampling and were assigned into an experimental group (n=40) and a control group (n=40). The research tools consisted of 1) Fon Khanom Sen dance book 2) Fon Khanom Sen dance clip. Instruments used to collect data were a physical fitness test record form and the Suan Prung Stress Assessment. Data were analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation and Mann-Whitney U test statistics.

The results showed that after exercise, the experimental group had a significantly higher physical fitness mean score than the control group (p<.05) and after the experiment, the experimental group had a statistically significant decrease in stress levels (p >.05).

Therefore, exercising by Fon Khanom Sen dance helps promote physical fitness. As a result, students are healthy and preserve local arts, culture and wisdom.
