The Effects of Using Foot Massage Cream Containing Bergamot Oil in Combination with Self-Foot Massage on Clinical Outcomes in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research employed a quasi-experimental research design with a one-group pre-posttest design. The objective was to study the effects of using foot massage cream containing bergamot oil in combination with self-foot massage. The sample consisted of twelve elderly individuals with type 2 diabetes mellites receiving care at the Samakkhi Community Health Center in Maha Sarakham Province. The research utilized two main instruments: 1) the intervention tools, namely foot massage cream containing bergamot oil and self-foot massage, and 2) data collection instruments, including personal information forms, clinical outcome records, satisfaction assessments, 10 g monofilament, and skin moisture measurements. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon signed rank test.
The findings revealed that after 2 and 4 weeks of utilizing foot massage cream containing bergamot oil in combination with self-foot massage, participants exhibited a decrease in the number of numb spots on both feet compared to before the application, indicating a statistically significant improvement at the .05 level. Furthermore, there was a notable increase in skin moisture of both feet post-intervention, significantly higher than the baseline at the .05 level.
These results suggest that the use of foot massage cream infused with bergamot oil in combination with self-foot massage, effectively reduces foot numbness and enhances skin moisture among elderly individuals with type 2 diabetes. Thus, nurses are encouraged to recommend this intervention as an adjunctive method to alleviate foot numbness and enhance skin moisture in this patient demographic.
