Active Aging among Older Persons in Aged Society of the Area Based Context of Thailand: A Situational Analysis of Chai Nat Province in Central Region of Thailand

Abstract
The objectives of this descriptive research were 1) to examine level of Active Aging of older persons and 2) to compare active aging levels of older persons in Chai Nat Province, central region of Thailand by age, sex, activity daily living, health status, income, and living areas. Multi-stage random sampling was employed to obtain 628 Thai older persons living at home using randomly selected from all eight districts area of Chai Nat province in Central part of Thailand. The research tools were composed of 1) demographic data form, 2) the Active Aging Scale for Thai People (AAS-Thai), and 3) the Barthel Activities of Daily Living (Barthel ADLs). Data analysis was performed by using descriptive statistics, including: percentage, mean, standard deviation. Testing difference between factors were analyzed using One-way ANOVA.
The results of this research revealed that: the overall active aging score among Thai older persons in Chai Nat Province was at high level ( = 69.39 ± SD 18.38). Regarding the dimension of active aging, healthy, participation, and security were at high level (
= 36.58, 21.91, 10.90, SD = 9.10, 7.48, 3.99 respectively). When comparing the overall active aging by age (early age, middle age, old age), ability of daily living (Independent, moderate independent, dependent), and living area (urban, semi-rural, rural), it was found that the overall active aging scores of Thai older persons were significantly different by age, ability of daily living, and living areas. Thai older persons living in semi-rural community had higher level of active aging scores than those living in urban and rural community. However, Thai older persons with early age and higher ability of daily living and living in semi-rural community had higher significant levels of active aging scores.
The results from this study should be applied to design strategic plans, to construct policy, and to develop guideline of Integrated Implementation for improving the quality of life of the older persons Thai in the area of Chai Nat Province.
