Effect of the Self-Efficacy Promoting Program on Parent Participation in Caring for Children with Pneumonia
Main Article Content
Abstract
This quasi-experimental research aimed to study the effect of the self-efficacy promoting program on parent participation in caring for children with pneumonia. The sample included 64 parents of children with pneumonia aged 1 – 3 years undergoing treatment in the pediatric ward 2 of a tertiary hospital in the lower northern region Thailand and were divided into a control group and an experimental group of 32 people each. The research instruments included 1) the self-efficacy promoting program 2) parent's model video 3) power point 4) manual of parent participation in caring for children with pneumonia in hospital 5) the demographic questionnaire and 6) the parent participation scales in caring for children with pneumonia with a reliability of .80. The implementation and data collection were conducted from July to September 2023. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-test.
The research results revealed that the parent participation in the experimental group after program implementation was significantly higher than that of the control group (t = 7.577, p < .001) and significantly higher than before attending the program (t = 13.875, p < .001).
This research suggests that nurses should apply this the self-efficacy promoting program to promote parent participation in caring for children with pneumonia in hospital to gain better health outcomes of children with pneumonia.
