Main Article Content
Abstract
The purpose of this quasi-experimental study was to examine the effects of a 5A’s self-management support program on knowledge, exercise and dietary behavior, and lipid profiles among overweight employees of the company in Samutprakarn province. Seventy overweight employees participated in this study and were equally divided into either the treatment group or the control group. Thirty-five overweight employees were in each group. The research instrument consists of 5A’s self-management support program and a set of questionnaires. Descriptive statis-tics, independent sample t-tests, paired sample t-tests, and repeated ANOVA analyses were used to analyze the data.
The results show that after the 16-week and 20-week post-intervention showed that the average scores of knowledge, exercise and dietary behavior were significantly higher than pre-intervention and the control group (p<.05).For lipid profiles, only the average scores of triglyceride and LDL levels of the treatment group after 20-week post-intervention were significantly lower than the pre-interventions (p<.05); when compared to the control group, the difference of the average total cholesterol, triglyceride, and LDL and HDL levels were not statisti-cally significant (p>.05).
The findings of this study indicate that the 5 A’s self-management sup-port program could improve knowledge, exercise and dietary behavior and reduce triglyceride and LDL levels. Therefore, organization director could use these study findings as guidance in setting health policy and healthcare providers could initiate a self-management support program to pro-mote knowledge and improve the health behavior outcomes of overweight employees.
