Development of Bed Bound Elder’s Caregiver Empowerment Model in Community

Abstract
This research and development aimed to develop a model for empowering caregivers of bed bound elders in the community. The study area was Phlai Chumphon Subdistrict, Mueang District, Phitsanulok Province. The group of information providers was Stakeholders in Phlai Chumphon Subdistrict, 41 people, selected specific qualifications. The tools used to collect data were questionnaires, group discussion guidelines, in-depth interview guidelines, issues of questions in the format of a review group meeting, discussion guidelines for model satisfaction and health effects and their application. Frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, pair t-test, and thematic analysis were used to analyze the data.
The research results found that the model is efficient and effective, after using the model, groups of stakeholders are satisfied with the model. Elderly caregivers are also satisfied with the model and its effects on their health and their role as caregivers for the bed bound elderly group. The scores for perceptions of empowerment, knowledge, attitudes, and practices in caring for the bed bound elderly group were obtained before and after the trial of the model. They are significantly different at the .05 level. The model has 3 components: social support, Appreciation faith, and hope. There is a process of empowering caregivers in 3 steps: 1) self-assessing readiness 2) self-changing 3) Integrating a normal way of life.
Suggestions for Subdistrict Health Promoting Hospital by the Director Professional nurses, health teams, local government organizations communities, and community networks agencies related to the elderly should jointly formulate policies and drive the implementation of the model. to be continuously used in the area to build the capacity of caregivers to continue caring for the bed bound elderly group.
