Effectiveness of Resilience Enhancement Program to the Quality of Life in the Colorectal Cancer Patients undergoing Chemotherapy

Abstract

This study employed a quasi-experimental research with two-group pretest- posttest design, aiming to study the effectiveness of resilience enhancement program to the quality of life in  the colorectal cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Participants were 40 colorectal cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. They were purposively selected according to specified criteria. Use the matching method Then divided into a control group and an experimental group of 20 people each using a simple random method. Research tools include a resilience enhancement program consists of 8 activities  for 8 weeks: 1) building relationships, 2) my self worth 3) why is resilience important?, 4) relieve stress Increase the power of happiness, 5) In a crisis, there is a chance, 6) bonding, cordiality, 7) fueling life and


8) exchanging knowledge leading to development. The research  collection tools were general information questionnaire and quality of life assessment questionnaire, it has a cronbach alpha coefficient of .89. Data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Chi- square test and t-test.


The finding reveals that after finishing the resilience enhancement program, the mean score of quality of life in the experimental group was significantly higher than before receiving the program and significantly higher than the control group (p<.001). The efficacy of resilience enhancement program has been shown to affect the quality of life in the  colorectal cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.


Therefore, this program should be applied to patients with other types of cancer. who receive chemotherapy, such as breast cancer and liver cancer, in order to restore the mental state and increase the quality of life of the patient
