Depression and Correlation between Stress, Depression and Self - Esteem in Students Nurse Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Phare

Abstract

Descriptive research design study to depression and correlation between stress, depression and self-esteem in nursing students in Boromarajonani Phare Nursing College from 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th year. Program of Diploma in Nursing Science (Equivalent to Bachelor of Science in Nursing) 2015 students in the academic year 2562, 198 of nursing students to collective demorgraphic by questionnaires, CED-S (Center for Epidemiology Studies-Depression Scale), Rubin’s Self Esteem Scale and SPST-2 (Suanprung Stress Test-20).The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and Pearson’s correlation. 


Results of study that males participants was 7.1 % and females was 92.9 % mean age was 21.22 %. Depressions scores in students nurse evaluated by CED-S was 14.1 %. Stress in nursing students evaluated by SPST-2 level mild was 4.0 % moderat was 54.0 %, high level was 36.9 % and severe level was 5.1%.  Results of self-esteem evaluated by Rubin’s Self Esteem Scale show modurate level was 73.2 %, hight level self-esteem was 26.8 %. Correlation between self-esteems score and depression score was negative at .52.And correlations between stress and depression score was positive at .62 with statistically significance (p<.01).


Suggestions for next study;


1.Other variables related to stress and mental health of students should be studied, such as adjustment, study, economic problems in the family, motivation.


2. Experimental research should be conducted on the results of using programs that can reduce stress and depression among nursing students.
