Factors Influencing the Psychological Well-Being of the Elderly Living in Muang Nakhonsawan Province

Abstract

This descriptive research aims to study the factors influencing the psychological well-being of the elderly living in muang Nakhon Sawan province. The sample was obtained by stratified random sampling, consisting of 206 people. The tool, which was proven to be well-qualified for conducting research, was a questionnaire designed to survey factors such as social support, adjustment, coping, and psychological well-being, which proved CVI = 1 and reliability at 0.957,0.911, 0.926, and 0.976, respectively. Percentage, average, and standard deviation are statistical measurements that were used to analyze the data. Pearson’s product-moment correlation was used to analyze the correlation between factors and psychological well-being. Lastly, multiple regression analysis was used to analyze predictive variables that are useful in predicting psychological well-being.


The results show that: 1) the psychological well-being, adjustment, and coping were at high levels of 89.8%, 90.8% and 94.7 %, respectively. The overall level of social support is moderate at 93.7%. It was found that social support in information was at a lower level than all aspects at 28.6%. Following that, emotional support and material support were at 13.1% and 11.7%, respectively. 2) social support, adjustment, and coping were correlated with the psychological well-being of the sample at a statistically significant level 01 (r = 647, .829, and .902, respectively). 3) The  factors that are crucial  for predicting psychological well-being areCoping (X1), emotional support (X2), and material support (X3) for 92.2 % with statistical significance at the 01 level. The equations were = (-1.221) + 1.355 (X1) + .121 (X2) + (-.157) (X3)


Therefore, the nurse and health team must be aware of health factors such as coping, emotional support, and material support, taking into account individual differences, when planning nursing activities, providing information, or health counseling to promote the psychological well-being of the elderly. To increase the resilience of the elderly in adapting and coping appropriately. Maintain a good quality of life for the elderly.
