.The Effects of a Program Promoting Disinfection and Sterilization Practices of Medical Equipment on Knowledge, Practices, and Satisfaction among Personnel in Subdistrict Health Promoting Hospitals

Abstract

This quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest study aimed to: 1) compare the knowledge and practices of disinfection and sterilization among personnel in sub-district health promoting hospitals (HPHs) before and after receiving the intervention program, and 2) examine participants’ satisfaction with the program. The sample consisted of 28 personnel from HPHs in Mae Sot District, Tak Province. The research instruments included: 1) a program to promote proper practices in medical equipment disinfection and sterilization, 2) a knowledge test, 3) an observational checklist of practices, and 4) a satisfaction questionnaire. All instruments were validated by three experts, yielding a content validity index of 1.00 for each. The reliability of the knowledge test, assessed using the Kuder–Richardson-20 formula, was .75. The interrater reliability of practice observation was 1.00, and the reliability of the satisfaction questionnaire, measured by Cronbach’s coefficient, was .76. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired t-test, Fisher’s exact test, and Pearson’s chi-squared test.


 The findings revealed that: (1) after the program, participants’ mean knowledge score ( equation  = 21.54, SD=1.71) increased significantly at the .001 level (t = 5.52, p <.001), and their practice performance (60.94%) also improved significantly at the .001 level (c² = 97.81, p<.001) ; (2) overall satisfaction with the disinfection and sterilization promotion program was at the highest level (equation  = 4.83, SD=.29).


 Recommendation: The program should be implemented continuously among HPH personnel to ensure sustainable effectiveness in disinfection and sterilization practices.
