Application of Geographic Information System (GIS) for the Spatial Distribution of Stroke in Mae Tha District, Lampang Province
Main Article Content
Abstract
A retrospective study aimed to investigate the spatial distribution of Stroke in Mae Tha District, Lampang Province. Data was collected from the registry of stroke patients at Mae tha Hospital, who were diagnosed between January 2021 and December 2023, and the data was linked with subdistrict-level maps. General data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, spatial autocorrelation was examined using Moran’s I and Anselin Local Moran's I (LISA) or Cluster and Outlier analysis statistics.
The study found that the majority of stroke patients in Mae Tha District between 2021 - 2023 were male (59.60%). Average age of 65.42 years (SD=11.98). In both males and females, the highest number of cases was observed in the 75-79 age group. The spatial distribution of stroke in 2021 showed a random pattern, while in 2022 and 2023, it displayed a clustered pattern. The Moran’s I values were .038, .380, and .262, respectively. Additionally, the analysis of Anselin Local Moran's I (LISA) correlation values revealed statistically significant high clusters (High-High). These areas include Na Krua Subdistrict in 2021 (p=.05), Hua Suea Subdistrict in 2022 (p=.05), and in 2023, Mae Tha Subdistrict (p=.05), Na Krua Subdistrict (p=.05), and Namjo Subdistrict (p=.01).
Therefore, healthcare service units should use the study results as a guideline for allocate resources and proactive health care services to planning stroke prevention and surveillance to reduce the incidence of new cases in the area.
