Improving the Quality of Life in Aging Society by Using Participatory Action Research
Main Article Content
Abstract
The improvement of quality of life for older people is crucial, since it is one of the key drivers of national work for older people aimed to encouraging Thai seniors to "active aging". This is due to Thailand's growing population of seniors aged 60 and more, which already accounts for 20% of the population, or around 13 million people, making it a complete-aged society by 2021. The purpose of participatory action research was to improve their ability to care for themselves and engage in their families and community activities, therefore reducing the severity of physical and mental health issues associated with aging. As a result, implementing participatory action research focusing on their needs in issue resolution is appropriate for increasing elders' quality of life. Creative participatory meetings, which put information into practice, should be held as it is consistent with the older people's learning style by sharing experience with each other. Furthermore, improving older people's ability to care for themselves and participate in active aging should be implemented. This article recommended nurses and other caregivers of older people use participatory action research to improve older people's quality of life in a tangible and appropriate way in the context of health care services. It will focus the content of the creative participatory meetings. Finally, this will result in improved and long-term quality of life for older people.
