The Effectiveness of Dental Health Education Comic Books among Grade 4 to 6 Students, Mueang Trang District, Trang Province

Abstract

This quasi-experimental research was a 2-group study before and after the experiment, and after 2 weeks of experiment. The objectives were to examine the effectiveness of dental health education comic books on knowledge among grade 4-6 students in Mueang Trang district, Trang province between before and after knowledge from comic books in the experimental and comparison groups. health education, and to evaluate opinions of the experimental group toward dental health education comic books on knowledge among grade 4-6 students in Mueang Trang district, Trang province. Sixty of grade 4-6 students consisted of 60 students: 30 students of Thai Rath Witthaya 39 School in experimental group, namely and 30 students of Ban Bang Yang School in control group were randomly sampling. The research instruments were dental health education comic books, learning document, knowledge test (Kuder–Richardson: KR20=0.84) and opinion questionnaire (Reliability: Cronbach's alpha=0.84 toward dental health education comic books, respectively). Percentage, mean, standard deviation, paired sample t-test and independent t-test were used for data analysis. The results showed that:

1. The mean knowledge score of experimental group after receiving dental health education comic books (M=17.20, SD=3.40) was statistically significantly higher than before receiving knowledge (M=10.93, SD=3.32) at 0.05 (p<0.001).

2. The mean knowledge score after receiving dental health education comic books (M=17.20, SD=3.40) was higher than after 2-week posttest (M=16.80, SD=4.16) but not significantly different. The mean knowledge score of control group after receiving dental health education document (M=16.30, SD=3.03) was higher than before receiving knowledge (M=15.73, SD=2.88) but not significantly different. The mean knowledge score after receiving dental health education document (M=16.30, SD=3.03) was statistically significantly higher than after 2-week posttest (M=15.20, SD=2.95) at 0.05 (p=0.014).

3. The opinion toward dental health education comic books in the experimental group was highest (M=4.58, SD=0.63).

Dental health education comic books could be used as the instructional media on dental health education knowledge for other school students in order to be interested in learning and as a guideline in creating education comic book media effectively.
