Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer Prevention: A Case Study for Promoting Health Literacy among Reproductive Women in Bangkok Metropolitan Area

The objective of this study was to understand health literacy of reproductive women regarding breast and cervical cancer prevention. Qualitative research methodology has been used. Participants were 17 women aged 25-59 years, living in the Bangkok metropolitan area. Instrument was in-depth interview regarding reproductive system in women who had high score of health literacy in breast cancer and cervical cancer prevention. A semi-structured interview guide with observation was used. Content analysis was employed to analyze the data.
Results showed that the conditions of promoting health literacy on preventing breast cancer and cervical cancer in women’s reproductive were: 1) to be able to assess health information (such as social support and ability to use modern media), 2) to understand health information (such as whether media is easy to understand in a short span of time and media innovation), 3) to appraise health information (such as media literacy), and 4) to apply health information (such as self-ability for health information to apply).
Findings could be used to further promote health literacy in preventing breast cancer and cervical cancer in reproductive women.
