Abstract

There is now clear evidence that happy workers are more productive. This research and development aimed: 1) to determine the circumstances for happiness in personnel at   Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Songkhla, Sample was 127 employees, selected by simple sampling method. Instrument was a questionnaire on happiness (the “Happinometer”, developed by the ministry of public health). And focus group discussion was conducted. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and content analysis, and 2) to develop a guideline for promoting happiness among personnel. Draft of guideline was verified by 7 experts for its suitability and feasibility. Data were collected from sample of 27 personnel which were selected by simple sampling method. The data were analyzed by t-test method. The guideline was applied to the College. Results were as follows.

1. Mean score for happiness, after guidelines were applied to the College’s organization, in accordance with action plan of fiscal year of 2019, was increased from 70.00 to 77.22 The highest score was for the item “good relaxation (Happy relax)”, which increased from 63.80 to 80.40. For results of 4 small focus group discussions, some activities were helpful and should be further implemented. It was also agreed that the working atmosphere in college was relaxed due to a good relationship among all personnel, as well as administrators’ respect, trust, and cooperation to solve problems.

2. The guideline for developing happiness at the Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Songkhla (Happiness Organization) had 7 actions, including: 1) basic welfare for happiness in workplace, 2) happiness promotion by growing vegetable for consumption, 3) exercise for staying fit and healthy, 4) access to books for a variety of age groups, 5) health promotion activity with sport competition (6th Dok Keaw games), 6) organization development (OD) for paradigm shift, and 7) good governance practices from leading administration. All 7 projects were confirmed by experts. It was found to be significantly suitable (p<.001), and feasible (p<.01) with 29 items.

The nursing college administrators should run activities to promote the organization of happiness concerning with understanding, expression to subordinates, and good communication in the organization.
